Kovarthani was a hygiene promotion moderator who worked as an aid worker at the ACF organisation. She died at the age of 27 in Muttur, Trincomalee in an assassination.

Description
On August 4, 2006, 17 humanitarian workers were likely killed by Sri Lankan security forces in Muttur, Trincomalee. Among those killed was Kovarthani from Action contre la Faim (ACF) an organisation against hunger. They were lined up and shot dead at the organization’s compound. Massacres of humanitarian workers are not uncommon in Sri Lanka.
Legal situation (investigation/criminal proceedings)
After the deaths of these aid workers, investigations began, only to be led to believe that the Sri Lankan judicial system was incapable of conducting further investigations, nonetheless the slain employees were identified. The crime was covered up by Sri Lanka’s top authorities. And the organization ACF believes that only an independent investigation could find the assassins.
