Subajini Ariyaratnam was a 21-year-old Tamil woman from the town Karumpulliyan Mallavi in Mullaithivu district. She was a student at Mallavi Pandiyankulam M.V school.

Description
On 12.08.2007, Subajini came with her mother Suvesana Ariyaratnam to Nedunkerni, a town in Vavuniya, and visited her elder brother Jegan Ariyaratnam. The following morning, 13.08.2007 at 6.30 AM Subajini and her mother take a passenger bus to travel back. A few minutes later, Sri Lankan air force bombed a civilian area in Maruthodai, Nedunkerni. The passenger bus was also under the bombardment. The passengers and driver were able to rescue themselves – except Subajini. She was fatally wounded by this air attack and died.
Legal situation (investigation/criminal proceedings)
To data, no one of the responsible persons were held accountable – neither soldiers nor their chief commander, who were involved in this attack. There was no investigation, court hearings or other criminal proceedings. At that time, the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence was Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Currently, he is the president of Sri Lanka.
