Batticaloa is one of the important cities on the east coast of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Air Force carried out an airstrike attack on populated areas in the Batticaloa war zones in 2007. The Sri Lankan army also carried out continuous artillery attacks and multi barrelled explosives on innocent civilians from army camps at Mattunagar, Chandrukondan, Oddamavadi and Pillaiyaradi.
