100 examples of murdered women

Femicide

Violence against Tamil women by the Sri Lankan army and police has a long and terrible tradition and has again increased extensively in the last year. Moreover, in Sri Lanka’s patriarchal Sinhala society, women are oppressed everywhere.

Since we are confronted, so to speak, with new acts of violence against Tamil women every day, especially those who demand accountability for the fate of their disappeared relatives, our grief and anger remain alive. We have sufficient grounds and evidence to hold the perpetrators accountable. We also know that by international UN standards, all these are crimes against humanity.

As a Tamil women’s movement, we are fighting against the femicide of our people. With our campaign “100 reasons to condemn Rajapakse and Sri Lanka”, we will stand up against the President in chief and the Sri Lankan army and police.

We will not verbalize a sentence like “The number of incidents and deaths is impossible to count”. As women, we condemn these crimes not only with the evidence we have collected, but we also condemn them with our dignity and consciousness. We do not want President Gotabaya Rajapakse to be counted, among those who were always seen as “leaders of the state”, only after their war crimes were exposed or they died. We want him and the other war criminals in the government, army, and police to be prosecuted now.
